These supplements earlier contained the ECA component-ephedrine, aspirin and caffeine. Since sale of ephedrine and its alkaloid forms has been banned the ‘ECA’ supplements now use bitter orange/ Citrus aurantium (containing synephrine) in place of ephedrine.

Prohormone supplements utilize natural body enzymes to convert into testosterone hormone. A doctor’s prescription is essential to purchase them. Supplements that boost testosterone levels include Tribulus Terristris and ZMA. 6-OXO is an oestrogen blocker supplement. Anabolic steroids are also used to raise testosterone levels. This causes muscles to process proteins better, stimulating their growth.

Meal Replacement Products

These supplements may be packaged powder drink mixes or eatable bars. They are rich in proteins, minerals and vitamins, have moderate carbohydrates and are low in fat. They generally contain whey protein, egg albumin for proteins. Maltodextrin, brown rice and oat fiber provide carbohydrates. They sometimes use flax oil powder for Essential Fatty acids. Calcium Caseinate is a supplement that continuously releases protein for the body.

Potential Side Effects

Side effects are greater in case of testosterone and steroids because they change the hormonal stability of the body. If protein supplements are suddenly take by a person who has deficiency in proteins there will be effects from that. Excessive protein intake will cause side effects too. If the supplement is very potent the side effect will be more severe.
